The Berlin and Poznań palm houses were built almost simultaneously, at the beginning of the 20th century, as a manifestation of the triumph of Western technological thought over exotic nature, closed but also protected against unfavorable external conditions in sophisticated iron and glass structures. A quiet, windless spectacle of life, instead of insects and birds – the hum of heating systems.
Berlińska i poznańska palmiarnia powstawały niemal równolegle, na początku XXw., jako przejaw triumfu zachodniej myśli technologicznej nad egzotyczną przyrodą, zamkniętą, ale i chronioną przed niesprzyjającymi warunkami zewnętrznymi w wyrafinowanych żelazno-szklanych konstrukcjach. Cichy, bezwietrzny spektakl życia, zamiast owadów i ptaków – szum systemów grzewczych.
